The American Film Academy has announced the longlist of nominees for the Oscar award 2025. Ukrainian films are presented in the categories International Film and Feature Documentary.
The American Film Academy has announced the longlist of nominees for the most prestigious Oscar award 2025, which includes 169 films in the categories: International Feature Film, Feature Animation Film and Feature Documentary.
Ukraine received representatives in two categories:
International Feature Film:
The film by director Philip Sotnychenko La Palisade has made it to the longlist. The film takes viewers to 1996, the time of Ukraine’s transition from the Soviet system to independence. The plot revolves around a detective and a forensic psychiatrist who investigate the mysterious murder of a policeman.
Feature Documentary:
The category includes several Ukrainian works:
The Porcelain War – the story of Kharkiv ceramic artists who remained in the city during the war, fighting fear and the enemy.
After the Rain: Children Stolen by Putin Return Home by Canadian director Sarah McCarthy – about the return of Ukrainian children illegally taken away by the Russians to their families.
Peaceful People by director Oksana Karpovich – a film that combines radio interceptions of conversations between Russian occupiers and their families with a visual depiction of the destruction brought by the war.
Among other international contenders, the Polish film Under the Volcano attracts attention, which tells the story of a Ukrainian family at the beginning of the full-scale invasion of the Russian Federation.
The shortlists of nominees will be announced on December 17, and the full list of contenders for the 2025 Oscars will be announced on January 17.
It was previously reported that the American Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences and ABC announced that the 97th Academy Awards ceremony will be held on Sunday, March 2, 2025.
